About the job

This is a paid on-campus position for Lawrence Tech Media Communication students. Students from other majors with media experience can apply. Students may work up to 20 hours per week while taking classes. You can even work over the summer! Hours are flexible around classes and extracurricular activities, but students are expected to stick to a weekly schedule created at the beginning of each semester.

Many students who graduated while holding a job in eLearning have gone onto exciting careers in the field of media. eLearning is well represented by former student assistants working at places like Fox 2 Detroit, WXYZ 7, Vectorform, M-1 Studios, Michigan First Credit Union, Vimeo in NYC, and many others.

Working hours generally fall between 9am and 8pm during the week in the fall and spring and during occasional weekend events. Summer working hours are typically 9am-5pm during weekdays.

Who we want

We're looking for students who are motivated to learn new skills, jump outside of their comfort zone, and dive right in to real-world experience. This is a job for energetic team players who are responsible, organized, and focused. Ideal candidates have some experience recording video, editing, and/or interviewing. A position with eLearning's Media Production team is one of the best ways to apply techniques and concepts learned in Media Communication classes to real-world projects, but you don't have to be a Media Communication student to get the job!

What you'll do

  • Record and edit on-campus events such as academic lectures, student activities, and athletics
  • Interview faculty, staff, industry professionals, athletes, and coaches
  • Brainstorm video ideas and concepts
  • Light various scenes
  • Create 2D and 3D graphics
  • Assist with classroom technology maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned
